You may know Rainn Wilson from his “dorky” role as the bespectacled Dwight Schrute on NBC’s hit series The Office or from his stint hosting Saturday Night Live last month. Either way, you’re going to see lots more of him in feature films very soon.

Why the double n’s in a name simply pronounced rain?

“My crazy, bohemian hippie parents thought I ought to have an extra n’” Wilson explained.

Rainn grew up in the Pacific Northwest until his parents—his mom was an actress and his dad wrote sci-fi novels—decided to work at the Baha’i national center in Illinois. Baha’i is a religion said to believe in equality among peoples and sexes. So it’s not a militant sect? “No,” said Rainn. These are the most peaceful people you would ever want to meet.”

His favorite song is “We Will Rock You,” by Queen. “It is appropriate at any event” he says, “even weddings, and during lovemaking.”
