The stickers that I thought were only in Tokyo seem to be in many places around the entire world, I have no idea what they are. Maybe graffiti, street art, stickers warning of impending doom? I just don’t know.

There is a little more about info at this San Francisco site called Metroblogging. It includes a very interesting comment that this could possibly be a reference to a modern Iranian religion's base text - Baha'u'llah and the New Era. The Baha'i faith, established in Iran in the mid-19th century is now spread around the world and gathering momentum as a rapidly growing religion. In context and including the Japanese characers that generally appear below the letters "BNE" it could read "Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era has arrived" or "Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era is coming".
We've covered the story a couple of times before, but the mysterious BNE has gotten even more press recently with a story in the New York Times last Saturday and a piece on ABC just now. The latter features some pictures of BNE stickers from Flickr, including the one by this story. We've also got a report of a sticker in Kuala Lumpur. Notably lacking: any explanation.

Just a theory, but BNE could stand for the title of the book Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era, or even the statement itself. That is, maybe the stickers are meant to say "Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era is/are coming"? Baha's apparently a major religious leader, though I'd never heard of the guy before a little research. I mean, there have been sightings in Japan, Kuala Lampur, Prague, San Francisco... Obviously there is a large group doing this. If the stickers were first pressed in Japan, it would explain the Kanji, and of course, all of these areas have at least a small group of Baha'i's... I don't know, just a theory.
As Baquia reports, "Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era is coming", in Maori, just in time to benefit from the audacious advertising campaign, if that's what it is.
