HAMILTON, ON, 14 November 2005 (CBNS) -- In the 40-foot-high glass-enclosed meeting room of the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ontario, over 200 locals gathered earlier this month for a spiritual experience that combined live music and readings from the scriptures of the world's religions.

Dubbed "Soul Food," the event sought to nourish the souls of its patrons by offering tidbits of wisdom and insight from sacred scriptures as well as such unlikely sources as American essayist Robert Fulghum and early 20th-century mystic poet Kahlil Gibron. The monthly event, sponsored by the art gallery and the local Bahá'í community, has become a hit since its debut in Hamilton last August.

Bahá'ís around the world are striving to hold public devotional gatherings as a way of fostering a spiritual attitude in their neighbourhoods. Most devotional gatherings take place in settings slightly more intimate than an art gallery, such as in homes. However, the popularity of Soul Food suggests a real desire among the public for this type of informal collective worship.

Furthering Sweden's reputation as a cesspool for breeding EDM [electronic dance music] talent, we welcome Tim Norell. Norell is starting to make a name for himself opening for other Swedish greats such as Marcus Schossow and AN21 and His latest song "Bahai" has blown up on YouTube, already garnering 100,000 views within a week. "Bahai" is a very interesting symbiosis taking a driving saw bassline, talking stabs, but making them much more bouncy and playful than normal. Keep your eyes on Norell as he is only just starting to make waves within the EDM scene.

BAND MASTER: Musical legend Russ Garcia celebrated his 95th birthday with a concert at the Turner Centre in Kerikeri earlier this year.

A man described as a musical legend - whose 70-year career in jazz and film saw him work with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Walt Disney and Clint Eastwood - has died at his home in Kerikeri aged 95.

Russ Garcia died on Sunday morning, with his wife Gina at his side, after a short illness. He had been in good health until a few weeks ago, when illness forced him to cancel a series of concerts in the US.

According to the customs of his Bahai'i faith he was buried in a private ceremony yesterday afternoon.
