I ran across this while cruising through the blogosphere. It's from Columbian singer Leonor Dely. Every once in while the idea comes up of doing an online mashriq -- I've even had a couple on my Unenrolled Baha'i list, although they tend to be hard to pull together. Something like this video would be great for an online devotional.

Common Market to release Black Patch War May 13th, 2008 on MASSLINE Records.

Nearly two-and-a-half years after the release of their eponymous debut album, Common Market (RA Scion and Sabzi [Blue Scholars]) is pleased to announce Black Patch War will be available May 13th, 2008 on MASSLINE MEDIA. The 7-track EP, which derives its name from an early 20th century farmers' rebellion in Western Kentucky, serves as the musical prelude to the highly anticipated full length album Tobacco Road, due in September.

{josquote} The emcee's fight to separate himself from the indoctrination of the Old Church culminates in "Watership Down," a paean for anyone who has ever questioned the validity of their own faith.{/josquote}

Common Market formed unofficially and unintentionally during a collaborative project in 2004 when Sabzi (Saba Mohajerjasbi) contributed beats to RA Scion's Live & Learn. The two casually discussed the idea of releasing an EP based on their mutual respect for mid-nineties era east coast Hiphop, as well as a shared spiritual foundation in the Baha'i Faith; that project, recorded entirely in a week-long session inside a sweltering Beacon Hill attic, would become what now stands as the moniker for both the band and the album: Common Market.

Do'a:
Ancient Beauty, Released 01/01/1981

1981 release from contemporary instrumental ensemble featuring co-founders Randy Armstrong and Ken LaRoche with Robert Bennett and Bill Kinzie

A major focus of Do'ah's music is the peaceful coexistence of the widely diverse peoples and traditions of the planet. Do'ah has earned formal recognition by the United Nations for their highly successful "Peace Tour " of the United States and Canada. Highlights of the tour included the San Francisco International Peace Conference, where Do'ah played to an appreciative audience of over 8000 people. They were also recently part of the first Earth Run and an invitational tour of India.

Do'ah's music can be described in a phrase, "life affirming." The band's name comes from the Arabic term do'a, which means literally "to call to worship." The music itself, while often described as New Age because of its message, is more akin to the world jazz of Don Cherry, Oregon, or Weather Report.
