Macy’s celebrates three decades of coffee, community and creating something better

If it’s possible for a business to serve as a scale model for what a harmonious utopian society would look and function like (and probably even smell like), then it would be Macy’s Coffeehouse. It might seem like an exaggeration to compare Macy’s to Paradise, but to many Flag locals that’s exactly what it is, and life in town simply wouldn’t be the same without it.

This month, Macy’s European Coffeehouse and Bakery celebrates its 30th year in business. Owner and founder Tim Macy has been at the helm since the beginning, opening in relative obscurity when there was perhaps one other coffee joint in Flagstaff, and continuing to thrive through the coffeehouse craze and exponential proliferation of the Starbucks culture, although he hadn’t even intended on opening a coffee shop.
